EDITED TRANSCRIPT (Video and Audio below)(Read time: 3:33 mins)
I don't always know who I'm talking to when praying. I want to be honest with you. I've had the devil show up during my prayer time. I've had the Holy Spirit show up in my prayer time. He's there every day. And then I had my thoughts show up. So, when I approach prayer, let me tell you how I do it. When I come to prayer, I may be in a bad mood. I may not be feeling too hot, but I know how to get myself back into the proper framework in my mind. And I enter; I come into the presence of God by the blood of Jesus.
I may be feeling like a bar of lye soap. But I'm telling you, I know how to get my mind straight when I go to prayer. I start by saying, “Lord, I want to thank you for allowing me into your Presence. I enter your gates with thanksgiving and your courts with praise. I thank you, God, that you gave me another day.
I'm just glad to be here. And I want to thank you because the blood of Jesus said I could come with boldness into the throne room of grace.”
Now, what is the devil doing? He's sitting there listening, hoping that he can stop me from getting into the throne room. But he can't stop a Bible-quoting Christian.
I am a word-carrying believer. It's just not a good idea for me. It's a God idea for me. It is down in my soul. I want to thank you, Lord, that you allowed me in here. And I want to say, and I don't know if I'm telling myself some time or just reminding myself who I am in a Christian, uh, who I am, but you need to tell yourself some time. As Isaiah 54 says, no weapon formed against me will prosper.
All of you rising against me will fail, and you may have formed a weapon, but they will not prosper because I'm a child of God. What? Guess what the devil's doing? He's getting a little nervous because he found somebody who knows who they are.
Quote Deuteronomy 28. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 28 that the Lord will make you the head, not the tail. You shall be out front, not lagging. You shall be above and not beneath. I know who I am in Christ. Tell yourself Psalm 20: Some trust in horses and some trust in chariots, but my trust is in the name of the Lord, Most High. Some people trust information. Some people believe Wikipedia before they believe anything else, but I trust in the name of the Lord, Most High. He is the Author and Finisher of my faith. He began it, and He will finish it. He knows I'm in the muddy middle, and I've got a God smarter than all of y'all.
So you see the confidence that I walk in this prayer room, and I said, you know, I give him; tell yourself Psalm 91, that no evil shall befall you and no disaster shall come near your dwelling. Somebody is listening to me right now. You're fighting COVID. I'm telling you, no evil shall befall you. No disaster will come near your dwelling.
You may be sick, but the sickness does not have the final word on your life.
In Psalm 92, the righteous shall be planted like a palm tree in the house of the Lord, and they shall flourish. Maybe you need to tell yourself you are a child of God and will flourish in the Presence of God. Tell yourself, Romans chapter 8, if God be for me, who can be against me? Do you see where the devil is now in my prayer?
He's over here under a rock, hoping I will shut up with the word. I came in with my first weapon; I beat his lights out with the blood of Jesus; I came in with boldness, confidence, and humility; and now I've taken this big ol’ weapon out called the Word of God. I'm just telling him, Romans chapter 8, that I am more than confident that nothing can separate me from the love of God, neither height nor depth, neither that nor this; I am a child of God.
So who am I talking to? Amen. I may just be speaking to myself, but I'm telling you, I had boldness before. I am bolder now than when I started the message because I am confident, and His Word gives me confidence. Don't you walk around as a defeated Christian, always looking at defeat, your arms slumped over?
How are you doing today? Well, I'm just looking at defeat, looking at defeat, looking at defeat. Get your head up. You are a child of God. Lift your head. Look up into the hills, which come with your help. Your help comes from the Lord. You're a king; you have royalty flowing through your veins. Quit acting like a beggar when you are a child of God!
