Corrie ten Boom was a Dutch Christian who, along with her family, helped many Jews escape the Nazi Holocaust during World War II by hiding them in their home. Corrie’s faith was tested when she and her family were arrested and sent to concentration camps. Despite the horrors she faced, Corrie held on to her faith, even forgiving her enemies after the war.

Corrie’s story is a powerful example of forgiveness and unwavering faith in the darkest of times. Even when faced with unimaginable suffering, she chose to trust God and forgive those who wronged her.

In her book The Hiding Place, Corrie wrote:

"There is no pit so deep, that God’s love is not deeper still."1

Her life reminds us that no matter how dark our circumstances, God’s love is always with us, sustaining us through every trial.

Is your spiritual flame burning brightly, or does it feel a little dim?

In the Bible, God commanded the Israelites to bring pure beaten olive oil to keep the lamps in the tabernacle burning continually (Exodus 27:20). This oil represents the flow of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Just as the Israelites had to bring their best oil, we need to keep our spiritual oil pure and flowing to maintain a strong connection with God.

But what happens when our oil becomes contaminated?

Sometimes, life’s difficulties, offenses, and unforgiveness can act like bugs in our oil, making it difficult for our spiritual flame to burn. When that happens, it’s time to do an oil change! We need to examine what’s going into our hearts and minds and remove anything that’s blocking the flow of God’s Spirit.

Here’s how to keep your spiritual oil pure:

1. Examine Your Heart:

   Are there any offenses or grudges you’ve been holding on to? Ask God to reveal any areas of bitterness and help you release them. Unforgiveness can be like a contaminant that prevents the Holy Spirit’s presence from flowing freely in your life.

2. Refill with Fresh Oil:

   Spend time in God’s Word and in prayer, allowing the Holy Spirit to refill and refresh you. Just like a car that needs new oil after so many miles, we need fresh oil daily to keep our spiritual engines running smoothly.

3. Fan the Flame:

   Don’t wait for someone else to light your fire. Take responsibility for your spiritual growth. Worship, pray, and actively seek God, even when you don’t feel like it. The more you stoke the flame, the brighter it will burn.

Action Step:

• Take a moment to ask God, “Is there anything in my heart that’s contaminating my oil?” Write down any areas of bitterness, frustration, or offense that come to mind. Then, pray and ask God to cleanse your heart and refill you with the pure oil of His Spirit.

Has your countenance been a little down lately?

It’s easy to fall into a negative mood or get stuck in a perpetual frown when life throws curveballs our way. But what if I told you that there’s a way to give yourself a spiritual facelift? And it’s not about Botox or expensive creams—it’s about changing what’s on the inside to reflect God’s joy on the outside.

Psalm 43:5 says, “Why are you so downcast, O my soul?” The psalmist is checking his own countenance, asking why he looks and feels so defeated. The solution? Turning back to God and letting His presence illuminate our faces with joy. It’s like basking in the sunlight—when we spend time in God’s presence, His light reflects off of us, and our faces start to shine with His glory.

Here’s how you can get that glow back:

1. Give Your Emotions a “Head Fake”:

   Just like in sports, sometimes you need to fake out your emotions. Choose to think positively even when you don’t feel like it. Declare that traffic is a time to pray, not a time to complain. Laugh at setbacks instead of dwelling on them. This head fake works wonders!

2. Spend Time in God’s Presence:

   Numbers 6:24-26 says, “The Lord make His face to shine upon you.” When you spend time in God’s presence, His light begins to shine through you. So, if you want to change your countenance, get in God’s face daily through prayer and worship.

3. Check Your Circulation:

   Just like blood circulates through our bodies, our thoughts circulate through our minds and emotions. If you’re holding on to bitterness, anger, or unforgiveness, it will show up on your face and in your mood. Release those toxic emotions and let God’s peace flow through you.

Action Step:

Look in the mirror today and ask yourself, “What is my face saying?” If your countenance is reflecting stress or frustration, take a few minutes to pray and invite God’s peace to fill your heart. Let His joy start to lift your countenance and reflect His light to those around you.

Ever had one of those days where everything seems to go wrong?

We’ve all been there—stuck in a rut, feeling like we’re just going through the motions, or battling a bad mood that we just can’t shake off. But here’s some good news: Jesus wants you to be of good cheer, even when life’s circumstances aren’t in your favor. He doesn’t just suggest it; He commands it!

In the Bible, Jesus told His followers to “be of good cheer” on multiple occasions, and these weren’t times when everything was going great. When a paralyzed man was lying on his mat, Jesus told him to be of good cheer (Matthew 9:2).

When the disciples were terrified out on the stormy sea, Jesus walked toward them and said, “Be of good cheer” (Matthew 14:27). Even when Paul was in a life-threatening shipwreck, he received a message from God to encourage everyone on board: “Be of good cheer, for I believe God” (Acts 27:22).

What’s the secret to having good cheer in bad times?

It’s not about pretending everything is fine. It’s about having tharseō—a Greek word1 for cheer that implies having great courage because of God’s presence within you. When we have this cheer, it’s not fake happiness; it’s the strength that comes from knowing God is in control and He will see us through.

So, how do we get there?

It starts by making a choice to trust God, no matter what. Don’t let your circumstances dictate your mood. Instead, let God’s promises shape your outlook. Be intentional about bringing positive thoughts into your mind and rejecting negative ones. When you’re tempted to worry, speak words of faith: “I will be of good cheer because God is with me.”

Action Step:

• This week, write down three situations that are currently causing you stress or anxiety. Next to each one, write down a promise from God’s Word that counters your fears. Read those promises aloud every day, declaring that you choose to “be of good cheer” because you trust in God’s goodness and provision.

What do you do when it feels like your faith isn’t enough?

There are times when we feel too weak, too small, or too insignificant to make a difference. But God has a way of using the most unexpected things to accomplish His will—just like He did through the bones of Elisha.

After Elisha died, it seemed like his story was over. But then, something miraculous happened. One day, as some men were burying a body, they threw it into Elisha’s tomb. The moment the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man was revived! (2 Kings 13:20-21, NLT).

What’s the lesson here?

God isn’t limited by time, circumstances, or even death. Elisha may have felt unfulfilled on his deathbed, thinking he hadn’t fully accomplished what he was called to do. But God showed that even a dead man’s bones could be used to bring life.

Where do you feel like you’ve hit a dead end?

Maybe you feel like you’ve run out of strength. Perhaps you think your efforts have been in vain or that it’s too late to see results. But this story tells us that God’s power can show up when we least expect it—even in the most lifeless situations. All He asks is that we keep believing, keep trusting, and keep placing our hope in Him.

The miracle of Elisha’s bones reminds us that no situation is beyond God’s reach. Even when you think it’s over, God is still working. He can bring life out of what appears to be dead. So don’t give up on your faith. You may feel like you’re at the end, but God is just getting started.

• Take a moment today to think about an area in your life that feels “dead” or stagnant. Ask God to breathe new life into it. Commit to praying daily for this situation, believing that He can turn it around—even when it seems impossible.

Have you ever met someone who made you feel a little uncomfortable?

Maybe it was a mentor who pushed you to reach higher, a friend who challenged your decisions, or a leader who showed you a different perspective. It’s tempting to shy away from these relationships, but what if these people are exactly who God is sending to help you grow?

Take Elisha, for example. He was a wealthy young man, comfortable in his family’s business, when the prophet Elijah showed up and invited him to a completely different life. At that moment, Elisha had a choice: stay in the safety of his familiar surroundings or follow someone who made him feel uncomfortable because it meant stepping into a destiny bigger than himself.

What about you?

Are there people in your life who challenge you? People who don’t let you settle for what’s comfortable? It’s easy to stay close to those who make us feel good and who affirm where we are, but sometimes God sends us “destiny relationships” that push us to go beyond our limitations.

Elisha’s story shows us that we need to embrace these people. Without Elijah, Elisha would have stayed on the farm, never stepping into his full calling. It wasn’t until he burned his plow and left his comfort zone that he found his true purpose.

Why does this matter?

Because destiny relationships aren’t always easy. They’re often uncomfortable because they challenge us, hold us accountable, and make us face our fears. But they’re also necessary for growth. If you only connect with people who keep you in your comfort zone, you’ll never step into the fullness of what God has planned for you.

So, the next time someone makes you feel stretched or uncomfortable, pause and ask yourself, Is this person a part of my destiny? Don’t dismiss them too quickly. They might be God’s way of pulling you into the future He’s prepared for you.

We’ve all been there—tired, frustrated, and ready to throw in the towel. Maybe it’s in your career, your relationships, or your spiritual journey. But what if I told you that your victory could be just one step away? That’s exactly what we learn from the story of King Joash in the Bible.

When King Joash went to Prophet Elisha for help, Elisha gave him a simple command: strike the ground with arrows. It wasn’t a difficult task, but King Joash struck the ground only three times and then stopped. What he didn’t realize was that his lack of persistence would cost him. Elisha became angry and told the king:

“You should have struck the ground five or six times. Then you would have struck Syria until you had destroyed it.” (2 Kings 13:18-19, NLT)

Have you ever stopped short of what God asked you to do?

Maybe you prayed a couple of times and didn’t see results, so you stopped. Or you tried serving in ministry for a while, but then quit when it got hard. Sometimes, the greatest danger we face is not that we won’t start something, but that we’ll give up too soon.

If King Joash had struck the ground a few more times, he would have seen total victory. Instead, he settled for partial deliverance. This story is a reminder for us today: Don’t stop short! Keep going even when it’s tough. Keep striking the ground even when it feels pointless.

As a 19-year-old drug addict and alcoholic, I encountered God's presence in an Assembly of God church, and it completely transformed my life. In just 20 minutes of prayer, I was freed from four self-defeating habits.

That kind of transformation isn't just for a select few. It's available to anyone who seeks God's presence. So how do we access this transformative presence?

1. Prioritize worship: It's not about being crazy, but about being "crazy in love with the Lord." Praise and honor Him!

2. Enter with expectation: Believe that God can and will transform you.

3. Allow others to stand in faith with you: Sometimes, we need a community to believe for us when our own faith is weak.

3. It positions us for miracles: Jesus often responded to people's faith with amazing miracles (Matthew 9:29). Higher expectations can position us for greater miracles.

An expectation that cannot be stopped is an expectation that will not be denied. This means that when we refuse to let circumstances dampen our expectations, we're setting ourselves up for divine intervention.

Consider the story of the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:25–34). She had an unstoppable expectation that just touching Jesus' garment would heal her. Her expectations led to her miracle.

2. Celebrate small victories: Acknowledging God's faithfulness in small things builds our expectation for bigger things.

3. Allow others to stand in faith with you: Sometimes, we need others to have faith for us when we can't.

Remember, freedom can come quickly. I was saved as a young man, and I was delivered from four self-defeating habits in just 20 minutes of prayer. With God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26)!

Remember, you can't have what you speak against. If you speak for divine healing, you'll see healing. If you speak blessings, you'll receive blessings. It all starts with spending time in God's presence.

Jesus told Martha in the Bible, "If you believe, you will never die."

Do you believe that? We don't really die. We step into a new life with God.

I wish we celebrated this more. Too often, we're afraid of death. But it's a beautiful transition to something far better. I've seen many people pass, and only a few were truly prepared and celebrated it. In the Old Testament, they would gather everyone around their deathbed and say, “I'm going to heaven!”

We should do the same.

Living with an eternal perspective changes everything. We don't just live for now; we live for eternity. So, let's embrace the hope and joy of eternal life. Let's live with purpose, knowing that heaven awaits us.

Success is great, but it's intoxicating. It can keep us from what really matters. We need to detox from success and seek significance. What do you want to be remembered for? What's the one thing God has called you to do?

Significance isn't about success or failure. It's about meaning. God gifted you for a reason. Use that gift for His kingdom — that's where true satisfaction lies. Find your purpose, live a significant life, and make a difference.
